Cellulose intrafibrillar mineralization of biological silica in a rice plant

چکیده

Abstract The essence of morphological design has been a fascinating scientific problem with regard to understanding biological mineralization. Particularly shaped amorphous silicas (plant opals) play an important role in the vital activity rice plants. Although various organic matters are associated silica accumulation, their detailed functions shape-controlled mineralization process have not sufficiently clarified. In present study, cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were found be essential as scaffold for accumulation husks and leaf blades. Prior silicification, CNFs ~ 10 nm wide sparsely stacked space between epidermal cell wall cuticle layer. Silica nanoparticles 20–50 diameter then deposited framework CNFs. plant opals formed through intrafibrillar on CNF scaffold.

Multiphase intrafibrillar mineralization of collagen.

In the past, the two major biomineralization motifs, biosilicification and biocalcification, were considered as two discrete processes. However, there is increasing evidence of the existence of an inextricable relationship between biosilica and calcium-based biominerals. The recent discovery of a unique silica–chitin–aragonite biocomposite in one genus of demosponges (Verongida) introduces a no...

Mineralization of parathion in the rice rhizosphere.

We studied CO(2) evolution from ring-labeled [2,6-C]parathion (O,O-diethyl-O-p-nitrophenyl phosphorothioate) in the rhizosphere of rice seedlings. The soil samples (nonflooded [60% water-holding capacity] and flooded) were treated first with technical parathion (20 mug/g) and then after 10 days with ring-labeled [C]parathion. In unplanted soil, less than 5.5% of the C in the parathion was evolv...

Biomimetic Intrafibrillar Mineralization of Type I Collagen with Intermediate Precursors-loaded Mesoporous Carriers

Limited continuous replenishment of the mineralization medium is a restriction for in-situ solution-based remineralization of hypomineralized body tissues. Here, we report a process that generated amine-functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles for sustained release of biomimetic analog-stabilized amorphous calcium phosphate precursors. Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional collagen m...

Rice Cellulose SynthaseA8 Plant-Conserved Region Is a Coiled-Coil at the Catalytic Core Entrance.

The crystallographic structure of a rice (Oryza sativa) cellulose synthase, OsCesA8, plant-conserved region (P-CR), one of two unique domains in the catalytic domain of plant CesAs, was solved to 2.4 Å resolution. Two antiparallel α-helices form a coiled-coil domain linked by a large extended connector loop containing a conserved trio of aromatic residues. The P-CR structure was fit into a mole...
